Farmers Insurance History:
Thomas E. Leavey and John C. Tyler founded the Farmers Company in 1928. As the years passed, their business
expanded to become the third-largest auto and homeowners insurance writer in the nation.
The Farmers Companies, also known as Farmers Insurance Group, began in California, but now operate in 41 different
states. The Farmers Group consists of approximately 18,000 employees and 17,500 independent agents. Together, they
serve more than 15 million customers.
